Irfan Pathan Fumes At BCCI For Umran Malik’s Non-selection In India A Squad

Former Indian cricketer Irfan Patham fumed at BCCI for the non-selection of Umran Malik in any of the Indian squad for the upcoming tour of South Africa. India will be playing 3 T20Is, 3 ODIs, and 2 Tests on their tour to South Africa, starting next month.

BCCI on Thursday (30th November) announced the Indian squad for all three formats including the India A squad for the South Africa tour. The governing body provided opportunities to quite a few youngsters in all three formats. There were quite a few notable names missing from the team and one among them was Umran Malik.

Umran Malik wasn’t even named in the India A squad. This came as a surprise to many because it was not long ago when everyone was going gaga about him. The speedster performed well initially and was even in schemes of things for the ICC World Cup 2023.

However, he was quite expensive and that raised quite a few doubts in Indian management. Umran Malik didn’t have good outings in the West Indies series as he was taken for a lot of runs and also wasn’t able to take wickets.

But with him being amongst the fastest pacers in the country, it was expected that BCCI would nurture him well. However, things are not looking great for him as it seems that he’s no longer in the scheme of things.
Irfan Pathan wasn’t impressed with BCCI not picking Umran Malik. He highlighted how the pacer has been completely sidelined despite him being a regular in the Indian team a few months back. Taking to his X account, he stated:

“I’m pretty sure the guy who was in the Indian team’s playing 11 a few months back can surely find a place in India A side.”

Umran Malik so far has played 10 ODIs and 8 T20Is, picking 13 and 11 wickets respectively. He’s yet to make his debut for the team in the Tests. It remains to be seen what will be the roadmap for him going ahead.
