Few Senior Players Likely To Be Part Of India A Tour Of South Africa Ahead Of Test Series: Reports

Some of the senior players of the Indian Test team are likely to be a part of the India A tour to South Africa ahead of the Test series that starts on December 26 in Centurion, as per PTI. Centurion hosts the first Test followed by the second Test in Cape Town from January 3-7.

The BCCI has previously arranged A tours, especially before an overseas Test series. However, since the Test series against Bangladesh last year, the tours were not in place as the ODI World Cup was the sole focus of the team.

However, with the new World Test championship cycle starting for India with the South Africa Test series, the BCCI will be sending a group of senior players who will be playing three four-day games before the Test series starts.

BCCI Source Confirms India A Tour To South Africa Ahead Of Test Series

There will be three four-day games against South Africa A followed by two more against England A (England Lions ) in January next year before the Test series against England.

“Yes, there are three four-day Tests between India ‘A’ and South Africa ‘A’ next month. The team for that will be announced in some days. Most of the consistent young performers along with those (seniors) who need some game time before the two Test matches in Centurion (December 26 to 30) and Cape Town (January 3-7) will be there,” a BCCI source told PTI on condition of anonymity.

Players like KS Bharat, Abhimanyu Easaran, Sai Sudharsan, Yash Dhull, Saurabh Kumar, and Upendra Kumar are certainly going to be a part of the squad. The BCCI is thinking about whether the likes of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ajinkya Rahane will be available for at least one of the games. There were previous reports of Rahane’s Test career being almost over with the selectors unlikely to consider him in the format in the near future.

Discarded spinner Jayant Yadav could be a part of the squad. Among the pacers Vidwath Kaverappa, Kuldeep Sen, Harshit Rana, and Umran Malik could be in the mix along with the newly-married Navdeep Saini.
