Indian pacer Deepak Chahar gave a befitting reply to former Australian cricketer Greg Chappell for his old comments on the pacer. The fast bowler said that it doesn’t bother him as many people have spoken about him since he started playing.
Deepak Chahar is among the unluckiest cricketers that have played for India. The fast bowler has been troubled a lot by the injuries, which haven’t allowed him to play consistently for India.
Whenever he shines at the big stage, his career gets marred by frustrating injuries and that has paved the way for others to grab the opportunities.
In 2021, Venkatesh Prasad took to his X handle to reveal that Greg Chappell had rejected Deepak Chahar at RCA for his height and told him to look for a different career option.

And he single handedly won a match with not even his primary skills.

Now Deepak Chahar has reacted to it. He said that it’s an old tale and not everyone trusts him. He said that when he started playing cricket, he told everyone that would play for India but nobody trusted him. Speaking in an episode of JioCinema’s daily sports show #AAKASHVANI, he stated:
“That’s an old tale. Many people have spoken on those lines even in the last few years. Not everyone trusts you. When I began playing Ranji Trophy (2010) and till the time I played for India in 2018, I would tell everyone that one day I would play for India. Nobody would trust me.”
My friends would doubt me – Deepak Chahar
Deepak Chahar further mentioned that when he was finding it hard to make it into the Ranji Trophy squad, his friends also doubted him. But he proved everyone wrong with his hard work. He explained:
“There was a time that I was finding it difficult to secure a place in the Ranji Trophy team. It was not an issue with performance, it only concerned some politics and injuries.
“My friends would doubt me, saying how will you play for India when you are not getting a place in the Ranji team. But then I played for India. I worked hard. People will keep saying things they want. They don’t know what you do. Only those supporting you know how hard you’ve worked.”
Deepak Chahar has been included in the Indian team for the last two T20Is of the ongoing series against Australia. With Indian pacers struggling to get going in the series, there are high chances that he might make it into the XI. He last played for India in December 2022.
Deepak Chahar also recently featured in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2023. He was in golden touch with both bat and ball. He picked 10 wickets in the 5 games that he played at an economy of 7.38. His best with the bat came when he scored 67 runs off 39 balls in the tournament at a strike rate of 171.79.
Deepak also featured in a few games in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2023. He smashed an unbeaten 66 off 56 balls against Arunachal Pradesh and also grabbed 6 for 41 against Gujarat.
